With more records in tennis beckoning even after winning her seventh Wimbledon title, Serena Williams feels that there remains much for her to accomplish in tennis.
The 34-year-old who now stands 22-6 in major finals set a new record by pulling level in grand slam singles titles with Steffi Graf. Now Williams just wants to continue her quest with the all-time mark of 25 beckoning.
"I would obviously like to keep it up for as long as I'm still out here playing professional tennis," William said after defeating Germany's Angelique Kerber 7-5, 6-3 for the women's trophy at the weekend.
"It doesn't get boring. As long as I'm winning, it doesn't get boring. Even when I'm not winning, it doesn't, because it makes me want to work harder so I can come out and hold up titles."
The number one is looking ahead to the Rio Olympics starting in a month but admits that the Games just do not compare for her with the four annual majors in tennis.
"I've won gold (London, 2012), I love gold. I kept one trophy, I would probably grab my gold medals," she said.
"Right now I am probably focused a little more on the slams, or at least I was with getting to 22. Now I feel like everything else will be pretty good."
William said that months of pressure have eased after she spent a year in trying to move from 21 to 22 majors. She won Wimbledon in 2015 but lost a US Open semi-final and went down in Australian and French Open finals this season.
"I've just felt a lot of pressure, I guess, I put a lot of that pressure on myself. Obviously had some really tough losses," she said.
"But if you look at the big picture...getting to three grand slam finals. In the past eight grand slams, I don't know how many finals I've been in (five). It's pretty impressive.
"I had to start looking at positives, not focusing on that one loss per tournament which really isn't bad, and for anyone else on this tour would be completely happy about it. Once I started focusing more on the positives, I realized that I'm pretty good. Then I started playing a little better."
Williams added: I learned that you can't win everything, even though I try really hard. I do the best that I can. I still am not going to be perfect."
