August sees 25.4 million bed nights, up 7.3% y-o-y

Around 4 million tourists stayed in commercial accommodation facilities in Croatia in August, up 3% compared to the same month last year while the number of bed nights went up 7.3% on the year to 25.4 million, the State Bureau of Statistic (DZS) reported on Thursday.

The good results in August also positively impacted the results for the first eight months of the year with around 65 million overnight stays in commercial facilities or 8.2% more than in the same period last year.

Foreign tourists accounted for 93% of these overnight stays, an increase of 9% compared to the first eight months of 2015 while domestic tourists accounted for 7.2%, an increase of 1.2%.

Of the 80 or so countries from where tourists come to Croatia, Germans were the most numerous, accounting for 26.% of all overnight stays in August, followed by Italians, accounting for 11%.

Based on the type of accommodation, the most tourist nights in August, 54.3% or 14 million were recorded by households (rented rooms, apartments, houses, etc), up 11%, followed by camps with 6.2 million nights or 3% more, and hotels with 3.6 million nights, an increase of 3.5% compared to August last year.
