Rovinj tournament taking place in Istrian city

The first edition of an international polo tournament started in the Croatian seaside resort of Rovinj on 12 May and is running through 15 May.

Rovinj is hosting four international polo teams with participants from Argentina, Switzerland, Germany, the United States, Sweden and Great Britain that are playing this royal sport on the Porton Biondi beach.

An additional 700 cubic metres of sand was transported to the venue.

Tomislav Popovic of the Adris Gorup has said that 250 employees of this group and partners have been included in the preparation and organisation of the tournament.

Pointing out the importance of this tournament for the promotion of tourism in Croatia, Popovic recalled that polo used to be played  at the Istrian archipelago of Brijuni during the 1920s and 1930s.

Thousands of visitors are expected in Rovinj for this occasion.
