Bomb alert on Israeli airliner en route to Tel Aviv

There was a bomb alert on an Israeli passenger airplane that flew over Switzerland en route from New York to Tel Aviv on Tuesday, according to Skyguide, the company that monitors Swiss airspace.

"We got an anonymous message and the plane continues to its destination to Ben-Gurion Airport as scheduled," a spokeswoman for the Israel's El Al airline told dpa, adding the plane was scheduled to land at 12:40 pm (0940 GMT)

Two Swiss Air Force jets scrambled to accompany the El Al Boeing 747 airliner and to establish visual contact with the pilot, Skyguide spokesman Vladi Barrosa told dpa.

The alarm was likely raised by the pilots, Barrosa said, without providing any further details.

A Swiss Air Force spokesman did not immediately respond to a query for further information.
