Erdogan's daughter to wed son of industrialist in Istanbul

The daughter of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is set to wed the son of an industrialist on Saturday, according to local media reports.

Sumeyye Erdogan will marry Selcuk Bayraktar at a ceremony in Istanbul to be attended by some 6,000 guests, Hurriyet newspaper reported.

Among them will be outgoing Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, who is set to serve as a witness. Davutoglu is being pushed out of his job, which he has held since 2014, after differences with Erdogan, the main power broker in Turkey.

Some foreign leaders, including from Qatar and Pakistan, are reportedly due to attend the event.

Turkish media reported the couple had become engaged in March.

Bayraktar's family owns the Baykar company, an industrial firm focused on the defence sector.

Erdogan has four children. His daughter Esra is married to Berat Albayrak, who serves as minister of energy and natural resources. Albayrak is seen as a major player within the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).

The AKP is due to hold a party conference on May 22 to decide on who will replace Davutoglu as party leader and prime minister.
