Former politician one of bombers in Somalia double suicide attack

A former member of Somalia's parliament was one of two suicide bombers behind a recent attack on international troops near Mogadishu's international airport, Islamist terrorist group al-Shabaab claimed Wednesday

Salah Nuh Ismail, also known as Salah Badbado, and an unknown second suicide bomber detonated cars loaded with explosives at an African Union checkpoint and a United Nations checkpoint manned by Somali troops Tuesday morning.

He left government in 2010 to join al-Shabaab, after serving as a parliamentarian for a decade.

“This is my last message to my fellow Muslims. I am prepared to launch this attack against the infidels with expectation of Martyrdom from Allah," Ismail said on a pre-recorded audio message released Wednesday by pro-insurgent radio station Andalus. Several buildings used by the UN are located near the capital's Aden Adde International Airport, as are barracks used by AU troops, who are in Somalia to help the government fight al-Shabaab.

Police said that at 14 people were killed in Tuesday's attack while Al-Shabaab claims 27 AU and UN soldiers died. The actual numbers could not be independently verified by dpa.
