Global, regional powers ask UN to resume Syria peace talks

The United Nations should resume the next round of peace talks as soon as possible, foreign ministers of global and regional powers agreed, according to Germany's chief diplomat Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The International Syria Support Group, led by US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, has tasked the UN with launching air drops to bring aid to Syrians in hard-to-reach areas, Steinmeier says.

He offers no indication that the Vienna talks resulted in a tangible outcome on strenghtening the shaky ceasefire, adding that the diplomatic debate was "controversial."
