John Kerry: Paris agreement's power is the message it sends

The power of the Paris agreement is the opportunity it creates by prompting the development of green technology and a new energy future, says US Secretary of State John Kerry.

"Paris marked the moment when the world finally decided to heed the ever-rising mountain of evidence that had been piling up for years, it marked the moment that we put to rest once and for all the debate over whether climate change is real," Kerry says.

"But the power of this agreement is not that it in and of itself guarantees that we will actually hold the increase of temperature to the target of ... 2 degrees centigrade... The power of this agreement is the opportunity it creates, the power is the message that it sends to the marketplace."
