Kurdish-led forces: Incirlik closure not affecting Islamic State push

The halt of operations at Turkey's Incirlik airbase has not delayed the campaign to capture Minbij in northern Syria from Islamic State jihadists, a spokesman for the Kurdish-led forces advancing on the city says.

"There has been no delay or effect," Shervan Darwish of the Minbij Military Council, part of the Kurdish-led Democratic Forces of Syria alliance, says.

"The air support is continuing, the coalition's support is continuing... Operations and coordination are continuing normally," Darwish tells dpa via a messaging app.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a monitoring group, says that an airstrike on Minbij by the US-led coalition against Islamic State has killed six civilians, including a mother and her four children, amid advances inside the city by the Kurdish-led forces.
