Nepal bus crash kills 22

At least 22 people were killed and 23 injured when a bus crashed in eastern Nepal Tuesday, police said.

The bus went off a road and careened more than 100 metres down a hill. The injured victims were airlifted to Kathmandu hospitals.

The bus was on its way from Diktel, in Khotang district, to Kathmandu, more than 250 kilometres away.

Police were yet to determine how many people were traveling on the bus, but witnesses said it was overcrowded.

The bus swerved when a section of the road crumbled away but could not avoid going over the edge, witnesses were quoted as saying by local media.

Road accidents due to bad roads, reckless driving and old vehicles are common in Nepal.
