North Korea editorial praises Trump as "wise politician"

An official North Korean media outlet has praised presumptive Republican US presidential nominee Donald Trump as a "wise politician."

"In my personal opinion, there are many positive aspects to Trump's 'inflammatory policies,'" wrote the author of the article on the propaganda website DPRK Today, which published the piece Tuesday.

These include Trump's threats to remove the 28,500 US troops stationed in South Korea, which the communist regime in North Korea has long pushed for.

Trump has said that South Korea should have a nuclear arsenal in order to better protect itself rather than relying on Washington.

The US regularly stages joint exercises with South Korea in preparation in case of an attack by Pyongyang, though both nations deny the motivation for training.

DPRK Today is considered a "propaganda instrument," according to the Defence Ministry in Seoul. However, how the publication is tied to the government remains unclear, a spokeswoman said on Wednesday. "We don't know where the server is located."

Trump suggested last month that he would be willing to meet with North Korean leaders over their nuclear ambitions, a departure from the previous US policy of trying to isolate Pyongyang.

NK News, a news website that specializes in North Korea, also quoted a portion of the DPRK Today editorial in which Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was called "dull."

"The president that US citizens must vote for is not that dull Hillary – who claimed to adapt the Iranian model to resolve nuclear issues on the Korean Peninsula – but Trump, who spoke of holding direct conversation with North Korea," it said.
