North Korea "ready to conduct another nuclear test"

North Korea is ready to conduct another nuclear test, South Korean intelligence officials said Monday, three days after Pyongyang conducted its fifth and possibly most powerful test to date.

"North Korea appears to be fully ready to carry out a nuclear test at its Punggye-ri test site on short notice. We are closely watching for any moves indicating another test," an intelligence official told South Korean news agency Yonhap.

The North has carried out all of its tests at the underground site since it began testing in 2006.

The comments came a day after South Korea said it had a plan to "annihilate" Pyongyang if it showed any signs of using nuclear weapons.

"Every Pyongyang district, particularly where the North Korean leadership is possibly hidden, will be completely destroyed by ballistic missiles and high-explosive shells as soon as the North shows any signs of using a nuclear weapon," a military source told Yonhap.

"In other words, the North's capital city will be reduced to ashes and removed from the map," the source said.

Pyongyang on Friday said it was now capable of mounting a nuclear warhead on a ballistic missile, a claim that was met with anger and condemnation by the rest of the world.
