Serbian PM urges Croatia to open Bajakovo crossing, threatens with countermeasures

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic on Monday asked Croatia to open the Bajakovo border crossing, saying that otherwise Belgrade would be forced to seek international protection and introduce countermeasures.

"For God's sake, we ask you to give up such an irresponsible policy, if not, we will be forced to take countermeasures because we must protect our country," Vucic told an extraordinary news conference.
He asked Croatia to open the Bajakovi/Batrovci border crossing which has been closed since midnight for trucks arriving from Serbia, following a decision from the authorities in Zagreb.
Earlier today, Belgrade asked for an urgent reaction of the European Union regarding Croatia's decision to close the Bajakovo border crossing for cargo transport, while state officials warned about the damage Croatian and Serbian companies would suffer as a result of such a decision, given that this route was also a trade route in the entire region.
Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Trade Minister Rasim Ljajic said that closing the Bajakovo border crossing was "a flagrant violation" of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement as it did not allow the entry and transit of trucks from Serbia.
