Suicide bomber blows herself up, injures 13 in Turkish city of Bursa

A suicide bomber blew herself up near a mosque in the western Turkish city of Bursa on Wednesday, injuring 13 people, the government has confirmed.

Health Minister Mehmet Muezzinoglu said none of those injured was in a critical condition.

The DHA news agency reported that the suicide bomber, who was the only fatality in the incident, was a 25-year-old woman.

The Interior Ministry is carrying out an investigation into the identity of the woman, whose body was reportedly ripped to pieces by the force of the blast.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Turkey would maintain its "resolute posture against terorrism." The attack could not dissuade Turkey from that position, he said before leaving for Qatar, according to the state news agency Anadolu. Davutoglu spoke of only eight people injured.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing.

The bomber struck near the city's famous Grand Mosque. The injured were said to have suffered only minor wounds.

Turkey has been hit by a number of suicide bombings in recent months, including an attack in Istanbul on March 19 which killed six people, among them the attacker.

Twelve German tourists were killed in a similar attack in the city on January 12. The government said Islamic State was responsible for both those attacks, although the terrorist organization never officially claimed them.

The capital Ankara has also been targeted by terrorists; a splinter group of the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) killed dozens there in two suicide bombings carried out in February and March.

On Tuesday, the US embassy in Ankara reiterated its warning to US citizens in Turkey on the grounds of what it said was "credible evidence" of planned attacks on tourists.
