Florida night club shooting "not terrorism," police say

A shooting at a Florida night club that left two teenagers dead and more than a dozen wounded was not an act of terrorism, police said Monday.

A 14-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man died in a shooting at 12:30 am (0430 GMT) in the parking lot of the Club Blu night club in Fort Myers, Florida, police said. Fourteen to 16 people were wounded in the shooting that occurred as parents were picking their children up from the club.

Police said they were still investigating possible motives in the shooting.

The club was hosting a teen night designed for ages 12-17 and had armed security inside and outside of the event, it said.

"We are deeply sorry for all involved. We tried to give the teens WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS A SAFE PLACE TO HAVE A GOOD TIME," the club posted on its Facebook page.

Three suspects have been arrested following a shooting in at a Florida nightclub early Monday, local broadcaster WINK reported, citing police.

Broadcaster WINK cited witnesses saying they had heard up to 30 gunshots. One described the scene as a "mad house."

In June, 49 people were killed in an attack at a gay nightclub in Orlando, the deadliest shooting in US history, which has been called both a homophobic hate crime and a terrorist attack inspired by the Islamic State movement.
