Tornado kills four in Uruguay

A powerful tornado killed at least four people in Uruguay and injured 200 late Friday, a news report said.

Another 12 people were missing from the town of Dolores, 240 kilometres north-west of Montevideo, newspaper El Pais reported.

Several houses in the town of 25,000 people had collapsed in gusts reaching 250 kilometres per hour according to a weather reporter on broadcaster Subrayado.

President Tabare Vazquez declared a state of emergency in the region.
