Trump says he hopes Clinton "gets well soon"

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Monday said he hopes his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton "gets well soon," a day after her campaign revealed she was suffering from pneumonia.

The former secretary of state made an early exit Sunday from an event in New York memorializing the September 11, 2001 attacks, and a video showed her stumbling and requiring assistance as she entered a van.

Clinton's doctor later issued a statement saying the former first lady had become overheated and was suffering from dehydration after having been diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday during an examination for a persistent cough.

"The coughing fit was a week ago, so I assume that was pneumonia also," Trump said in an interview with broadcaster Fox News.

"Something's going on, but I just hope she gets well and gets back on the trail, and we'll be seeing her at the debate," he said.

The billionaire real estate tycoon has brought up Clinton's state of health often in campaign stops, arguing that she doesn't have the "strength and stamina" to be president.

On Monday Trump claimed that candidates' health was a legitimate campaign issue, and said he had undergone a physical in recent days.

"I'll be releasing very, very specific numbers," the 70-year-old magnate said of his medical exam. "I think they're going to be good; I feel great."

Clinton cancelled a West Coast trip scheduled for early this week due to her pneumonia diagnosis.

Trump dismissed suggestions the Democratic Party may be considering replacing the 68-year-old Clinton as its standard bearer in November's elections, but added: "Whatever it is, it is; I'm ready."
