A Turkish soldier was killed Saturday in northern Iraq when a stray rocket launched by Islamic State militants, who are fighting Kurdish Peshmerga forces, landed at a base, the army said in a statement.
The army said it hit back at Islamic State positions.
The Turkish government says its soldiers at the Basheeqa base in Iraq are on training missions with Sunni Arab groups and Kurdish Peshmerga fighters who are battling Islamic State.
Turkey withdrew some troops from the base after the deployment sparked a row between Baghdad and Ankara in December.
Iraqi and Kurdish forces, backed by the US, are fighting Islamic State near Mosul, in northern Iraq, as part of an operation started this week to take back the country's second-largest city which has been under the extremists' control since 2014.
