US airstrikes kill 70 Islamic State fighters in Fallujah

Air raids in recent days on the western Iraqi city of Fallujah have killed more than 70 fighters of the terrorist militia, including the local commander, the Pentagon says.

Army Colonel Steve Warren says Maher al-Bilawi, a leader of the Islamic State, was killed in an airstrike and the fighting continues.

"It's still early in the Fallujah fight, so it's unclear how long this battle will last," Warren told reporters from Baghdad.
