US House leader says sit-in is a "fundraising scheme"

US Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is dismissing a sit-in on the floor of the House chamber as a publicity stunt staged for fundraising purposes.

Ryan criticizes Democratic lawmakers who are staging the sit-in over a lack of action on gun violence. He also says the sit-in is disrespectful to the institution and a distraction to lawmakers trying to do their jobs.

As proof of the protest being a "political stunt," he brought printed emails that Democratic legislators sent out over the past day about the sit-in that included solicitations for donations.

"If this isn't a political stunt then why are they trying to raise money off of it? Off of a tragedy?" He said.
