The United States is pledging 364 million dollars in additional humanitarian aid to Syrians affected in the ongoing civil war.
The aid is intended for Syrians both within the country and in neighbouring countries hosting refugees. It is to be used for food, shelter, safe drinking water, medical care and other urgent help, says Anne Richard, assistant secretary of state for population, refugees and migration.
"Faced with the unprecedented scale of tragedy and human suffering that Syrians have endured for more than five years and continue to endure today, this announcement reflects the immense generosity of the American people," Richard says.
The pledge brings the total amount of US humanitarian assistance in response to the conflict to 5.9 billion dollars.
